The Association of Church Sports and Recreation Ministries

Round Table in a Box

Providing leaders with a template for facilitating professional, empowering, and inspiring meetings, all in one place.

Greet, Meet & Eat

15 -30 Minutes before starting
  • If providing food, allow 15-30 minutes before the meeting.

    • Generally, the host church covers the meal. A goodwill cup could be set out for attendees to contribute towards the cost of their meals.

  • There should be a greeter at the door, and the greeter should mention the following:

    • There is a book table, and people should be encouraged to look at it.

    • There is food - Help yourself, sit with some new people, and introduce yourself.

  • Stay within the 60-minute window. Attendees can come early or stay late, as long as the space is available, but the official ending needs to take place within the allotted time.

Introduction or Ice Breaker

7 minutes

Examples:

  • Open in prayer

  • Give one minute birds eye overview to help orient participants

  • Introduce your presentation topic

  • Introduce a guest speaker

  • Share an interesting, relevant story

  • Tell a joke that connects with the presentation

  • Ask one or two people to respond to your ice breaker

  • Show a short attention-getting video

  • Play a short game

Main Topic

30 minutes

Communicate important information:

  • Special testimony

  • Academic discourse, the PowerPoint or video presentation

  • Panel discussion led by a moderator

  • Video or live Zoom of a special guest speaker

Do an activity by table (limit size to maximize participation and mix up people):

  • Brainstorm and list problems that need to be solved

  • Share and list solutions to specific problems

  • Brainstorm new ideas in the realm of sports and recreation

  • Pray around the table for either one or all ministries present

  • Develop a relevant questionnaire

Fill out a premade questionnaire that can lead to further research or discussion.

Closure

15 minutes

For Communications:

  • Provide the opportunity for questions and feedback, and explain the application

For Activities:

  • Ask one person to share their table's joint work

For Questionnaires:

  • Gather them and ask each table to discuss the application to the ministry

  • Save the results regarding the questionnaire to research until the next meeting. This acts as a cliffhanger and gets people to come back for a future discussion.

Closing Prayer

7 minutes

Facilitator closes in prayer or asks another one or a few people to pray and closes in
final prayer.
