Position: Director of Sports and Community Outreach
Reports To: Missions Pastor
Direct Reports: Sports Center Staff, coaches, referees, administrative support
Job Type: Full time position

Job Summary:
To extend the mission of DBC through creation, oversight, development, and staffing of a culture of gospel witness through sports and community outreach. The Director of Sports and Community Outreach is an individual with a heart for making disciples to be a part of the DBC Missions team. During active sports seasons this position requires Saturday and evening onsite hours.

Responsibilities and Job Duties: 
Focus Areas: The focus for the Director of Sports and Community Outreach role includes the following:
 Works with Missions Pastor to develop and implement a local community outreach strategy.
 Collaborate with DBC Ministers on ministry specific community outreach activities (i.e.: Walk Through Bethlehem, Trunk or Treat, Journey to Jerusalem)
 Sports Ministry as Community Outreach: Insure that sports programs are designed with reaching the community in mind, implemented with excellence, leaders are properly recruited, vetted and trained, and participants in leagues are followed up with and cared for. Incorporate new sports ministry opportunities that appeal to the community around DBC that is a major focus of outreach for the church and
personally follow up individuals who express interest in continuing discipleship.
 Wellness Ministry as Community Outreach: Work closely with the Director of the Cecil B. Day Fitness Center to create a culture of “friendly and intentional evangelism” within the staff of the Fitness Center, suggest and implement outreach events through the Fitness Center, and personally follow up Fitness Center members who express interest in continuing discipleship.
 Oversee the Benevolence Ministry of DBC to assist the church in caring for people in need both inside the church and in the community and personally follow up individuals who express interest in continuing discipleship.

Communications: Communicate sports and community outreach needs and opportunities to the church via social media, website, and print, working in concert with DBC’s communications coordinator and Missions Admin. Communicate the vision and strategy for sports ministry and outreach to the church and church leadership.

Administrative
: Participate as a fully integrated member of the DBC staff and attend monthly staff meetings. Work with the Missions Pastor in developing a sports and community outreach plan, budgeting and allocation of financial resources.

Desired Education & Experience:
The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic self-starter who possesses strong organizational skills. He or she will be a strong communicator who can cast vision, create culture, and develop strategies for sports, fitness and other community outreach. Experience working with individuals across diverse cultures and socio-economic circumstances is a significant plus.

Required: A sense of calling from God to missions and serving the local church is essential. College degree required. Two or more years in sports ministry. Must have a strong working knowledge of MS Office programs, basic understanding of budgets, and be able to multi-task. Membership and active involvement at DBC required.

Desired: Two or more years’ experience in one or more of these areas: administration, logistics, team leadership, or supervision. Seminary degree preferred. Perspectives on the World Christian movement certificate desired (if not, willingness to achieve soon after joining required).

Personality Characteristics Desired:
In addition to the specific responsibilities required for this role, Dunwoody Baptist Church also seeks candidates that possess some general competencies and behavioral traits that enhance the effectiveness of our staff.

Chicago First Church of the Nazarene- Nazarene Recreation

Nazarene Recreation has been a fixture in Lemont/Homer/Orland Park since the mid-1970’s.
Tens of thousands of kids have put on their Naz Rec t-shirt and have played soccer, t-ball,
basketball, and more on our fields and in our gyms. This is a ministry of Chicago First Church
of the Nazarene, a congregation that is reaching its community with the life-changing hope of the Gospel. NazRec is a doorway to make a connection and take a first step in partnering
with parents to #helpingparentswin.

Chicago First’s values are Faith, Family, Friendship and Farther Along. Expressions of these
values are lived out in ministries that are contemporary and creative. This ministry had over 4,000 registrations in 2018, with nearly 2,000 individual children registering to play in leagues. The focus is on children 3-8 years old along with a club soccer program through the early teens. The annual impact is a connection with over 7,000 people. This well-established ministry is seeking a new Director to take NazRec to the next level. We are open to changes that will keep this ministry viable and meeting the needs in our community.

NazRec’s next Director will join a team of committed staff members who work together to
make an impact in our local community, around Chicagoland and the world. NazRec is
healthy, growing and poised for greater impact.

Role
Director serves as the visionary force and face of NazRec to both the community and
congregation. Pay is based on a full-time role with 40-45 hours per week along with expected
involvement as part of the staff and family of C1. Wages are commensurate with experience
along with full benefit package.

Candidate must be a Christ-follower and in harmony with the beliefs and standards of
Chicago First Church of the Nazarene. References should include a pastor from the church
attending. Position reports to the Executive Pastor.

Responsibility Summary
  • Lead and develop the vision for NazRec in the congregation and community
  • Hire, lead and mange recreation staff of 5-10 year-round and 12-15 summer employees
  • Create and manage a budget of ~$375,000
  • Work closely with and oversee full-time office manager who is a key team member
  • Design and manage the yearly schedule of leagues, events and camps. Current snapshot includes;
    • 5 seasons of leagues, finishing with a large-scale award ceremony
    • 4-6 Family Night Live events coordinated with Family Ministries
    • 4-6 smaller family-oriented events
    • Lead NazRec team with great customer service
  • Managing of varied pieces of organization
    • Online registration/programs offered database
    • Field maintenance, equipment management and storage areas
    • Program brochures on a trimester basis
    • Coach recruitment (volunteers) and training
  • Report in writing monthly report to the Church Board
  • Serve as key member of C1 staff, attending weekly church staff meetings

Job Posting - Basketball Coaches Needed for Overseas Job

Job Posting:

A local basketball club in Sichuan Province, China is seeking 2 basketball coaches For immediate placement. Must be single; man or woman is acceptable.

Compensation:

The club will provide air travel return (once per year), housing, and a monthly salary of $1,500 to $1,900.  Additional income is possible by teaching additional classes. 

​Requirements:

Minimum placement time is 3 months, but one year or longer is prefered. Bachelor’s degree required and experience teaching youth / coaching basketball.

Job Description:

One coach is responsible to coach a high school club team and teach some elementary / kinder level basketball classes. The second coach will be responsible to teach elementary / kinder basketball classes. Work time is 5 days per week including weekends. Two days off per week.  

A work visa can be issued by the club. This will include certification of your diploma and a background check.

This will be the first full-time foreign basketball coaches for this club. They have a long history of coaching kids in this town.  We hope to place great coaches of character.

Position Summary: Assist the Director of Sports Ministry by leading and directing a
disciple-making ministry in the area of Sports and Recreation beginning inside our
church and reaching out into our community.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
• Pray regularly for league directors, coaches, players and programs within sports
ministry.
• Recruit primarily First Friends volunteers, and secondarily community volunteers
to coach and direct leagues in the Sports Ministry. Work to increase the
involvement of First Friends volunteers and participants in Sports Ministry.
• Give devotionals in large and small groups.
• Responsible for the implementation of the vision, management and oversight of
all sports leagues and administration to include cost planning work sheets, skill
assessment, team formation, ordering jerseys, festival activities, scheduling,
purchasing and distributing equipment, gifts, and awards. .
• Incorporate other First Friends ministries into the Sports Ministry.
• Develop a Sports Ministry Team that can serve, help provide vision and ideas for
the overall Sports Ministry.
• Administrate the budget for all areas of responsibility within sports and recreation
ministries.
• Help to recruit, supervise and manage Sports Ministry interns.
• Keep current on First Aide certification, defibulator and all emergency procedures
to include First Friends Crisis Management Plan.
• Attend regular scheduled leadership meetings that would include: sports staff,
ministry/all staff, and congregational meetings.
• Work with the Director of Facilities to maintain and care for the gym, baseball
fields and soccer fields.

Qualifications
• Maintain a regular presence at ministry activities and functions
• Strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills
• Be able to work evenings and weekends
• The ability to set up and tear down sports equipment in the Gym: chairs,
bleachers and basketball goals.
• Be able to lift 75 lbs.
• Member of First Friends Church (or working toward)
• Clean background check
• Bachelor’s degree in related field.
• Must be a Christian

Personal and Spiritual Qualifications:
• The greatest requirement for the Staff at First Friends is a strong personal
commitment to Jesus Christ and a love for His church (Matt.22: 36-40). He/she
must demonstrate a commitment to ongoing spiritual development and maturity
and must be someone with impeccable personal integrity and moral purity.
• The staff member views their position at the church as a “call” from God.
• Spiritual maturity and commitment to a Christian lifestyle. 1 Timothy 3:2-4,7 ....
above reproach, faithful to his wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable,
hospitable, able to teach, not given to drunkenness, not violent but gentle, not
quarrelsome, not a lover of money. He must manage his own family well and see
that his children obey him, and he must do so in a manner worthy of full respect.
(7) And he must have a good reputation with those outside the church, so that he
will not fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.
• Theologically he/she must be Evangelical with a deep appreciation for the
authority of scripture and an unswerving commitment to a biblically based
lifestyle. (Titus1:9) This lifestyle must exemplify the purpose, philosophy,
doctrines and vision of Canton First Friends Church.
• It is expected the staff operate and abide by Evangelical Friends Church Faith
and Practice and the Employee Handbook.
• Able to provide pastoral care for the families of First Friends.
