MANUALS
Church Sports International has produced 13 instructional, motivational
and apologetic manuals in order to help the local church understand the
value and viability of a sports and recreation for the purpose of
building the church - spiritually and numerically. These volumes
represent the accumulated information from 35 years of study, practice
and involvement in local church and parachurch Sports Ministry
settings. The information is not just theoretical, but represents
the experience of employing Sports Ministry in three churches as well
as working with Sports Ministry agencies globally.
1. Shepherd-Coach Training Manual (with Certificate Training Course) -
An early lesson in church-based Sports Ministry was that the key to
success was the coach. The Sports Ministry leader is a discipler,
but it is the coach who has the direct contact with the athlete and,
therefore, becomes the primary evangelist. That being the case,
this manual was created in order to produce a Shepherd-Coach - one who
had responsibility for X's and O's, but also for the spiritual welfare
of his/her flock.
2. Equipping and Sending Athletes and Teams to the Mission Field - Too
often athletes and teams enter the mission field ill-prepared and
unequipped to be genuine short-term missionaries. Having taken
multiple teams to the field, Rodger's goal is to assist the local
church in creating a model of sound recruitment and training for the
purpose of using sports teams to plant and grow churches.
3. Competition and the Christian - One of the reasons churches often
eschew sports is the mistaken notion that competition is
bad/wrong. This manual takes a look at the phenomenon of
competition from a secular and biblical view in order to help the
athlete understand that competition is an opportunity to glorify God as
one uses his/her gifts to exemplify Christ.
4. Recreation Ministry through Running, Jogging and Walking - Because
our culture is so enamored with fitness and, therefore, running or
walking, this phenomenon gives the church easy access to the community
for the purpose of outreach. Once establishing the purpose for a
running ministry, this manual gives a step-by-step process for
administrating a run/race.
5. A Theology of Sports Ministry - Far too often churches get involved
in Sport Ministry without thinking how it fits into the grid of
biblical thinking. Failing to establish a Sports Ministry on
sound theological thinking reduces sports to a mere game rather than a
means to fulfilling Christ's purposes in building His church.
This manual reviews four theological facets in order to create a
philosophy of ministry that is consistent with the Bible and God's
eternal purposes.
6. A Biblical Response to Co-educational Competitive Youth Sports -
While Title IX may attempt to bring equality to opportunity and funding
to women's sports, in youth sports it presents a real dilemma.
What is the Bible's view of boys competing with and against
girls? This manual attempts to answer that question.
7. Sports Ministry and the Church - This manual deals with how a Sports
Ministry fits into the local church. Too often, Sports Ministry
is pushed off into another area and is not integrated with the other
ministries of the church. This manual will help you create
a philosophy of ministry that is consistent biblically and helps to
create a symbiotic relationship with other ministries in the church.
8. Sports Challenge Event - This manual gives a step by step process
for an event in order to stimulate the congregation regarding Sports
Ministry, educate them as to the value as well as the needs to carry
out that ministry, and, then, to mobilize them through a recruitment
process. In addition to promotion, the manual will give
organizational and administrative goals including job
descriptions. This manual gives you a "turn-key" blueprint for
launching a Sports Ministry.
9. Evangelistic Sports Clinics - Because young athletes want to
improve, the sports clinic has become a very popular event. This
manual will help you understand how to organize a clinic, but more
importantly, how to make it evangelistic.
10. Biblical Foundations for Sports Ministry - Too many church leaders
challenge the place of Sports Ministry in the church because they call
it "unbiblical." This manual will help you think through biblical
principles that clearly indicate there is no prohibition regarding
Sports Ministry in the Bible. In fact, the principles seem to
indicate it is expeditious and wise to do so.
11. Starting a Sports Ministry in the Local Church - A successful
Sports Ministry is not an accident. Careful planning and
execution of details is critical. This manual walks you through
sequential steps in order to produce a Sports Ministry that is
missional and contributes to the overall goals of the church.
12. Golf Driven Sports Ministry - This manual is full of details,
examples and references for taking a golf tournament and making it an
outreach and/or a fund raiser. This manual has been praised by
those in the golfing industry as one of the most complete and helpful
manuals they have seen.
DVD
VIDEOS
CSI has produced 27 instructional, motivational and apologetic
DVD's. Included with each DVD is a Power Point presentation and
an outline for lecturing purposes. The topics/titles are
self-explanatory. The DVD's can be used for personal edification
or in a classroom setting. Even now, these DVD's are being used
globally to conduct training seminars. For description's sake,
the DVD's are a "talking head" although the camera angle is changed in
order to help stimulate attention. The DVD's can be divided into
several broad categories: 1. Biblical / Theological
2. Philosophical 3. Equipping / training and 4.
Sequential instructions .
AUDIO
CDs
The audio CD's are the sound tracks lifted off of the DVD's. This
format was created in order to allow those without DVD capacity to be
able to have the information via CD. As in the description of the
DVD's, the content is self-explanatory in the title.
