Into the Stadium

Today many churches in the western world are being forced to examine
their stance toward a new generation who have received little or no
Christian education. The cathedrals of the land are now in the shape of
new sports stadiums and fitness studios, and to visit a traditional
place of worship is seen as a quantum leap by many. Why should this be?
Could it be that the church has concentrated for too long on 'playing
at home' and has consequently neglected its 'away' matches? No longer
does an 'everybody welcome' sign outside the building mean anything to
the man in the street, especially if he thinks that he has little in
common with those behind the door. It is time for the church to leave
the security of it own ground where attendances have slumped and give
careful and strategic thought to playing on the world's field. A
radical, but Christ-centered change of strategy is required.
